Chapter Profile

 

Western Connecticut HOG is a Not For Profit Organization registered with the State of Connecticut and sponsored by Yankee Harley-Davidson of Thomaston, CT.

 

The chapter was established on 2 September 1986 and was incorporated on 15 August 1987.

 

At the time of this profile’s publication the chapter consisted of 154 members.

 

The chapter is family oriented providing and participating in various events which may or may not require the use of your Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

 

The chapter meets monthly on the 2nd Sunday.  This date can be changed if events warrant.  Meetings from October to March are held at the Log House Restaurant, Rt. 44, New Hartford, CT.  The April through September meeting are held at differing locations which are selected by the chapter officers or by suggestions at monthly meetings.  The meetings are usually held at some location that is a short ride from Yankee Harley-Davidson.

 

The chapter is involved with fund raising for charitable organization and causes.  Some of our most memorable donations are listed below:

 

1.      $1000.00 to the New Milford Hospital Emergency Department Renovation Program.

2.      Annual, fall & winter, contributions to area soup kitchens.

3.      Bone marrow transplant fund for a young New Milford girl.

4.      Orthopedic wheelchair for a little boy in Kent.

5.      The Touch of Love foundation for children with AIDS.

6.      The Susan B. Anthony fund for battered women.

 

 

WESTERN CONNECTICUT OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES

 

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the chapter is to promote activities for Harley Owners Group members by creating special chapter activities and encouraging participation in existing events.

 

MEMBERSHIP:

Membership is open to all current members and associate members of H.O.G.  All members who have paid their current dues will have equal voting rights.  An expired membership in H.O.G. automatically excludes membership in the chapter.

 

MEETING:

Regular membership meeting will be held monthly.  A schedule of the time and location of the meeting for the year will be listed in the newsletter.  Any change to the scheduled meetings will require that the membership be notified by mail at least two weeks in advance.  Cancellation of a regular monthly meeting because of inclement weather or other extenuating circumstance will require that the membership be notified by telephone or personal contact.

 

QUORUM:

A quorum shall consist of twenty percent (20%) of the chapter members.  No official chapter business may be conducted at any meeting without a quorum present.

 

EXECUTIVE BOARD:

The Executive Board shall consist of the Sponsors, Director, Assistant Director, Secretary, Treasurer, and most recent past Director.

Executive Board meetings may be called by the Director or Sponsors as needed.

 

OFFICERS:

A candidate for office must be a member in good standing.  A candidate for the office of Director must have served at least one term in another elected position.  A candidate for Road Captain must have passed an approved riders safety course within the last five years (This requirement may be waived if such a course is not offered for the candidates type of vehicle, i.e.. sidecar equipped motorcycle or three wheeled motorcycle).

 

Term of office for all officers except Treasurer will be one year.  Term of office for Treasurer will be two years.

 

Club Officers must wear club identification and badge of office to all club functions.

Appointed Officers will be appointed by the Executive Board from the list of nominees.  These appointments will be made at the first meeting of the new Executive Board which should occur prior to the October regular meeting.

 

ELECTED OFFICERS:

Director:  Duties as defined by H.O.G.

 

Assistance Director:  Duties as defined by H.O.G.

 

Treasurer:  Duties as defined by H.O.G. and provide monthly treasurers report as well as a quarterly financial statement.

 

Secretary:  Duties as defined by H.O.G. and preparation of the club newsletter.

 

APPOINTED OFFICERS:

Ladies of Harley Officer:  Coordinate and organize Ladies of Harley events and functions.  Report to the chapter on Ladies of Harley at monthly meetings.

 

Road Captains:  Duties as defined by H.O.G.

 

Historian:  Duties as defined by H.O.G.

 

ELECTIONS:

Nominations for all office positions will be made at the August meeting.  Ballots for elected officer positions will be mailed out in August, one for each dues paying member.  Ballots must be returned to Yankee Harley Davidson at least one week prior to the September meeting.  Only the original mailed ballot forms will be accepted.  Election results will be announced at the September meeting with the new slate of officers to take over at the October meeting.  Ballots will list all candidates for office.  Members may cast one vote for each office.

 

AMENDMENTS:

Amendments to these guidelines may be proposed from the floor at any regular monthly meeting.  The membership must be notified of the proposed amendment at least two weeks prior to the next meeting at which time the amendment will be open to discussion.  The membership will be notified that the proposed amendment will be brought up for vote at the second monthly meeting following it being proposed.  Passage of the proposed amendment will require a two thirds majority.  A proposed amendment may be withdrawn by the member proposing it any time prior to the vote.  A proposed amendment may not be reworded, but may be withdrawn and proposed with the new wording making it a new proposal.

 


STANDING COMMITTEES:

At this time the Chapter has no standing committees and creation of such would constitute a proposed amendment to the guidelines.

 

ARTICLES:

Article 1:  The Chapter will operate within the guidelines of Harley Owners Group.

Article 2:  The Chapter will maintain a charter with American Motorcyclist Association.

Article 3:  Members are encouraged not to wear the identification of other clubs to any Western Conn. HOG chapter event.

Article 4:  Any charitable donations made from the Chapter or in the name of the Chapter must be to charities located within the state of Connecticut.

Article 5:  The Executive Board must approve all charitable donations and may limit the amount of such donations.

Article 6:  The Director may create and fill any position as deemed necessary during his/her term of office.

Article 7:  Official Chapter jackets must have a uniform patch layout as follows:

*Large HOG patch and chapter rocker on back

*Small HOG patch, chapter rocker and charter member patch (if applicable) on upper left front

*Ladies of Harley patch on upper right front

*Life member patch on left sleeve 10 inches from collar

*Member's name on upper right front (directly under LOH patch, if present)

*No other patches or badges may appear on the official chapter jacket.

Article 9:  Children, age 16 and below, of Western CT. Chapter members receive free admission to all Poker Run type events.  Free admission includes the meal and participation in the main game/event.  Other activities such as 50/50, mileage pool. etc. must be paid by the participant.
